Tottenham hope to complete the signing of Holland international Edgar Davids by the end of the week.

Spurs have agreed a free transfer for the midfielder with his club Inter Milan and the 32-year-old will arrive at White Hart Lane for his medical on Thursday.

Davids' agent Rob Geerlings confirmed on Wednesday: "Edgar will be in London tomorrow for a medical with Tottenham Hotspur and to agree personal terms."

The North Londoners' determination to recruit the Dutch ace is evident in their decision to break the club's wage structure to entice him to White Hart Lane.

Should Davids accept Spurs' offer, he will become the highest earner in Martin Jol's squad on £47,000 a week and is also expected to land a £1.5million signing-on fee.

Davids is one of the biggest names to have joined Tottenham in recent years with the Dutchman having played for Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter and Barcelona.

A successful loan spell at the Nou Camp led to a scramble for his signature last summer, won by Inter, but he was a peripheral figure with the Italian giants and has been forced to move on in search of first-team football.
