Flames seal 24 karat win against Golden Lion

The Flames were back in action at the weekend, this time playing Golden Lion, a team from the first division of the Croydon league.

It was a game that had it all, a penalty, a sending off and an array of foriegn talent on display, but more of that later.

The Flames were without a number of players including Billy Barton (Hol)
Captain Craig S (Hol) Scott (Gay excuse) Tim (Inj) Ian (Sick) and the brothers Jones (Scum) But they also welcomed back Stu Shields who returned from his trip to the nether regions with a brand new hair doo. Also featuring this week was Flames triallist Bret Cox, who this week, showed his diversity by playing between the sticks, and also 2 foreign imports in the guise of Polish international Steve Yerlett and Dave the red nosed b@st@rd Owens from Liverpool.

The Flames lined up in a standard 4-4-2 formation and kicked off the match, both teams started even and it was up and down for the first 10 minuites with no real chances, then the Flames began to keep more of the ball and pass the ball around the park, early activity from young Luke upfront looked dangerous and some darting runs from the midfield showed the Flames early intentions.

A goal didnt come untill 15 minuites in when a pinpoint pass from the right side of the pitch was picked up beautifully by luke who beat a defender to it and calmly slotted it past the keeper to score his first goal for the Flames.

There was more action to follow as Steve yerlett who was running the left flank linked up with captain Grant taylor at the top of the pitch, Yerlett took it past a player and slotted Grant thru who was just about to release a shot on goal when he was taken down by a clumsy challenge in the area. The ref blew up straight away dispite shouts for diving. Big Anj stepped up for the penalty (even tho Luke wanted it) and he calmly slotted it home. Grant picked up an injury and couldnt play any further part in the game, Sean Redmond come on for the crocked skipper and switched positions with Dave owens upfront.
Golden Lion looked most dangerous on the counter, but didnt really have any clear cut chances on goal, the Flames defence snuffed out any attack and kept possesion, passed the ball well, and used the wings to full effect. Hats off to Dave smith who played right midfield even tho he was carrying a groin injury.
The next goal from the Flames was something special, it was a move which started from their defence aftef a failed golden lion attack, the ball was played beautifully up the right wing put thru the centre, dummied by Big Anj and smashed home by steve in the top right corner of the goal to make it 3-0

After half time, the pressure continued to mount on Golden Lion as the Flames (now captained by Big Anj who lead by example) kept coming at them, But it was a Golden Lion corner which provided the next goal, a deep cross come into the box and Brett Cox who was flawless all day flapped and missed the ball which went flying into his net.

That didnt dishearten the Flames who worked extremely hard to bag another goal, The defense worked as a unit and the midfielders were very creative. Close to 75 minuites they scored again when Luke Scored another peach of a goal as he slipped it past the rooted Goalkeeper.

Shortly after this a bizarre incident occured when a ball was passed back to the Golden Lion keeper who picked it up, to give the Flames a free kick, THEN the player at fault had an altercation with the ref who dismissed him with a red card! The free kick was taken sportingly and passed back to the goalie.

Golden Lions heads dropped after this and opened the flood gates for some sexy football from the Flames who were passing the ball smoothly and working hard on and off the ball.
Another cheeky goal from winger Steve yerlett who lobbed the keeper, sealed a well deserved victory for the Flames whos hard work on the training ground is starting to pay off.

After the game pete is reported to have said Superb

Well done lads for your hard work and effort on sunday!
