St Columbas FC picks up their first silverware...

Sunday 16th December 2007 is a day that will go down in history as the day St Columbas FC picked up their first ever trophy.

In an action packed day at Lodge Park Sports centre around fifty people turned up to see what was a strongly contested tournament in aid of the N.S.A Charity.

St Columbas were drawn against last years finalists Friday Flyers in the first game. This game was a tight game with the Flyers winning by three goals to two, with Steve Ratlidge scoring both goals for Columbas.

The second game was against the Misfits. This was a much easier game for St Columbas who ran out easy winner with goals for Ginardie (1) Ratleige(3) and Smart (3).

Semi Final
After finishing second in the group St Columbas came up against Group B winners The Robbie George. Columbas went 1-0 down early but came back to equalise shortly after with a goal form Kashiri. Robbie George then took the lead again shortly before half time to make it 2-1. But a strong second half performance form all the lads helped them get back into the game and eventually run out 2-4 winners in what was undoubtedly the dirtiest game of the tournament.

The Final
St Columbas came up against the team who had quite convincingly beaten them in the first game of the tournament and pre-match favourites, Friday Flyers.
In the beginning it looked like it was going to go to script as the Flyers repeatedly attacked the Columbas goal. But some excellent defending and goal keeping kept them in the game. Shortly before half time Ratleige broke away and slotted the ball into the back of the net with a great taken shot with his left foot.
The second half was much of the same with Columbas defence under a lot of pressure. But as the final whistle was drawing nearer the Flyers had to push more men forward. This resulted in Radleige being given more space up front and he caught them on the break another three times to secure a 4-0 victory and a little revenge.
