6-0 win as Lydd Utd see Red!

Riverside Inn FC bounced back to winning ways thrashing Lydd Utd 6-0 at home in the only League game played Saturday. The home side worked for over an hour to get the pitch ready for the visit of Lydd.

Lydd Utd started the game well looking bright and comfortable on the ball and threatened the league leaders several times inside the first 20 minutes of the game but couldnt carve out any real clear cut chances. Riverside forward Richard Long had several chances himself but couldnt find the back of the net. The home side got their first goal after Andy Ward had dribbled in to the Lydd penalty area after beating one defender the Lydd Captain rashly lunged in getting non of the ball and all of the player leaving referee Gary Griffin with a very easy decision to make, Player Manager Stuart Kingsnorth then stepped and smashed home the resulting spot kick to make it 1-0. From that point the game swung back to the home side and they began exert their dominance, Riverside Inn Skipper Guy Farmer made it 2-0 after Grant Moffat blocked the ball on his own goal line from a Lydd corner then instantly setting full back Neil Cheesman away on the counter attack who in turn feed the ball down the right wing to forward Richard Long who delivered the perfect crosser for Farmer who cleverly nicked the ball around the Lydd Goalkeeper and tapping home in to an empty net. Things soon when from bad to worse for Lydd Utd when on the 40th minute they had a player dismissed for a shocking headbutt on Riverside Defender Sean Knight leaving them 2 goals behind and down to 10 men at half time.

It didnt take the League leaders long to make the game 3-0 when on the 50th minute a long ball from Grant Moffat was flicked on to the Richard Long by Guy Farmer, 1 vs 1 Long cleverly lifted the ball over the onrushing Lydd Goalkeeper to grab a well deserved goal. Midfielders Steven Adams & Andy Ward became more and more involved in the game and were clearly starting to enjoying a free reign of the pitch carving out chances from all angles. Chris Clements was then introduced in to the fun and instantly made an impact converting from close ranger after some excellent work from Andy Ward on the right hand side making it 4-0. Substitute Clements was again involved when he feed in Guy Farmer for his second goal of the game producing an excellent finish from 12 yards striking the ball high up in to the far right hand corner of the net with the outside of his right boot. At 5-0 Joe Milton replaced Full Back Jason Booth getting his first action of 2010 and Jamie Budkiewicz replaced the yellow carded Sean Knight to make a solid debut for the Riverside Inn. with 20 minutes to go Lydd pumped players forward in a desperate attempt to grab a goal but they found Defender Steven Donald to be a rock they could not move. On the 80th minute the final blow was struck when after a superb one touch passing move ended with Chris Clements teeing up Man of the Match Stuart Kingsnorth who with a powerfully struck volley that hit the back of the net after striking the underside of the crossbar grabbed his second goal of the game. This was a well earned win for the Riverside Inn who have reaffirmed their ability to win in style.
