The Vine team went into this game looking to avenge the heavy defeat they suffered to Mattersey earlier in the season........

This somewhat lifted the visitors to make amends, and during the first 35 minutes of the game they played probably their best football of the season and were rewarded after 20 minutes when a Brammer corner was powerfully headed home by Rushby.

Despite their dominance, the Vine team were unable to build on this and for the last 10 minutes they took their foot off the pedal.

During this period Mattersey came back into the match, playing good football through the wing play of the Woodhead brothers.

Despite the opportunity to draw level from the penalty spot, the chance was missed by Martin Woodhead. However, within five minutes he made amends by curling home a free kick to make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half became end-to-end football with both keepers making good saves and both defences standing strong.

Both teams had half chances to win the game but overall a draw was the right result at the end of a good game of local football.

Special mention to Kev Williams, who stepped in to referee, with thanks from both teams.

Mattersey man of the match award went to R. Westoby, while the Candeo Vision of East Drayton award went to Matt Brammer for the Vine Inn.
