Kirkburton 2-3 Bay

Bay athletic current champions of the premiership travelled the short distance from canal side to The Gregory playing fields, hoping for a better result than when the two teams met at Leeds rd,
Kirkburton coming out on top with a 2-0 victory.

Kirkburton started the strongest, pressing Bays back four for the first goal, which should have come in the 20th minute when Matthew Tattersley sent a great ball into the back post from a free-kick, were Ben Hughill and Josh Williams (who had just come on for the injured Brendan aspinall) collided and got in each others way, and the ball been headed over the bar.
Damien Sykes first time effort from a Jordan Tindle corner just went wide in the 22nd minute.
Tindle then had his own chance to score when he was through one on one with the Graham McLachlan but shot wide.
Kirkburton got their break through in the 38th minute when Kieran Ryan picked up a long clearance, controlled the ball, and then hit his shot into the ground which looped over McLachlan who had committed himself to the shot he was expecting.
One minute later and Burton was 2-0 up from Bays defence not clearing the ball, Paul Wright shot from an acute angle into the bottom corner.
Half-time 2-0 up and really there shouldnt have been anyway back for Bay, Howard Cartledges half-time team talk would have been easy, stay focused stay alert and just keep playing has you have in the first half.
Bay came out in the 2nd half determined to press the Burton back four and in the 55th minute had a chance to equalise when Brighton mugadze was through one on one with Damian Brookes in the Burton goal, Brookes made a great save pushing the ball round the post for a corner.
Burton made a substitution in the 70th minute fetching on Scott Fulton for Jordan Tindle, Bay also made a substitution Matt Mulverhill coming on for Sam Jerome, this seemed to change the game, Mulverhill making an immediate impact, hitting the post in the 72nd minute, then scoring in the 73rd minute after Kirkburtons Dan Morgan gave the ball away, Mulerhill lifted the ball over the out coming Brookes.
Bay was pressing hard for the equaliser and in the 78th minute got it directly from a Danny Ryan corner 2-2 with 12minutes to play.
Kirkburton was under the cosh and started to panic, a free-kick was conceded 25yd out, and the centre half for Bay stepped up and hit a thunderous shot past the five man wall and hitting the underside of the bar after Brookes got the slightest of touches on the ball.
Bay got their winner in the 86th minute after Hughill lost the Ball just inside his own half to Danny Ryan who ran into the area and squared the ball to Matthew James who side footed home to give them all three points.
The large crowd couldnt believe how Kirkburton lost this game, 2-0 up with 20minutes to go, and lose, very disappointing.
