A difficult weekend weather-wise saw two Trinity Challenge Cup first round matches postponed due to the grounds being declared unfit........

In the event, only four fixtures took place and fortunately one of these was the twice-postponed Annie Lawson Cup Round Two match between FC Blues and BFC Birches.

FC Blues were under no illusions as to how difficult a task they faced against aBFC Birches team that had yet to taste defeat this season in any competition.

The Blues gave a good account of themselves and made Birches work hard for what was a somewhat flattering 6-2 win. Birches now play AFC Ropery in the semi-final.

In the two games played in the Trinity Challenge Cup the game between Harworth Colliery and AFC Ropery proved to be a really exciting cup tie.

The game was only settled in extra time when the greater experience of the Harworth players proved decisive, but the 5-2 result in their favour pays scant regard to how much Ropery contributed to an excellent match.

In the other tie Wroot FC, who after a blistering start to the season have gone off the boil, still proved to be too good for the visiting Marshalls Sports and moved into round two with a 3-1 win.

In Division One Retford Town Reserves shocked their in-form visitors Mattersey FC with a 2-1 win after a very close game in which both goalkeepers played exceptionally well.

The Gainsborough League management committee were very disappointed to receive Blyton FCs resignation this week, and it always upsets league tables and fixtures when teams drop out in the playing season.

Players much accept responsibility for their actions and surely such a thing as loyalty to hard-working club officials is not too much to ask.
