Bobs full view

Hi its the View again !

So no messing around and straight into the Senior Division. Centresports had a good win, 4-2, over challenging Goldsmiths United. Golds have had a poor season by their standard whilst Centresports are now getting a run together at the right time to keep the pressure on. Lessa Albion were unable to decrease relegation worries as they lost out to Milldean 2-3 as Milldean strive to keep in touch with the top 2. Midfield, the current leaders, were strong again as they came away with the points in a 3-2 win over Vista. Finally, in the relegation match Eltham Town United were the stronger as they beat lower placed Valley Valiants 1-5.

In the Premier Division, Chelsfield Old Boys had an upset as 4th place Midway had a good win 1-3. Eden Park Rangers were also in the hunt as they overcame Cudham United 3-2. I was over at Griffin Sports with 2 other officials doing their game against League leaders FC Poverest. Poverest are really struggling at the moment as they attempt to keep up their early season momentum. Today, I think it is fair to say, they looked nothing like challengers for the Senior Division as Griffin Sports made them pay for defensive failings and lack of penetration up front. My fellow Asst Referee commented on how flat they were at the back. Still back to the game. Even Stevens for most of the first half with Griffin Sports soaking up what pressure they had too and making good breaks. Most activity was in midfield where either side struggled to make way on a reasonable pitch. Griffin struck after around 39 or so minutes to cruise into the half time break one up. Both sides came out up for it in the second half and with Griffins Leo Spall marshalling the defence looked good until he had to leave to comment on the Chelsea match (who ??) for the Evening Standard. With Poverest losing on field composure this should have been the opportunity they needed to snatch a win. But it was not to be. Squandered free kicks before a scrappy equaliser finally pierced the stout Griffin defence. Some may think a draw a fair result, others that Poverest marked their time and poor finishing by Griffin let them off but in all fairness I think Poverest got out of jail just when they deserved to lose. I am sure possible promotion to the Senior Division is looking all the more daunting now. Good game though well done both sides.

So now to the First Division where Catford Cricket Club had an easy away win over strugglers Fairfield 5-0 and AFC Albatross lost ground with an uncharacteristic defeat as Sporting Sydenham exacted a good win 3-2, for them to pull themselves away from the drop zone. Keyworth, once again, managed to score more goals than they let in as they crept home only 4-3 against Blackfen Rovers. Finally at the bottom, Old Smiths and Kings Park Rangers slugged out a 2-2 draw.

In the Second Division, the mighty Lions roared as Noisy Dave Curtis Medway Lions won 4-2 against E C United. SE Twente entertained Sydenham Sports for the 3rd time in 3 weeks (funny old fixtures eh ) and proved me wrong yet again as they won 0-3. Otford Colts turn in fortune continued as they went down 1-4 to Eltham Progress who are stalking leaders Masters.

To Division Three where Crescent have given Ramsden OBs a fright and won 2-1. A rare appearance by British Queen saw them go down 2-0 against Eltham Town United A where have you been Mr. Jonas ?? Coney Hall had no problems against London City and won 4-1 to pull themselves within one point of Ramsden with 3 games in hand.

Division Four next and AFC Lessa Christchurch had some cheer with a 1-3 away win at Midway Res. Freelands showed why they think they should be league leaders with a 4-2 win over Viking Strollers which puts Freelands top on goal diff with games in hand also.
Ex Blues were held by second bottom Woodvale Wanderers 3-3 whilst one of those rare 0-0 draws saw Lombard Phoenix and EPR A inseparable. Euro United lost out by the solitary goal to North Kent Rangers 0-1.

So to Division Five at the end. Beckenham Imps had a 2-2 draw with promotion rivals Swanley Cardinals in an obviously tight match. Bromley Eagles swooped and nullified the FC Wasps sting as they flew off with the points in a 3-1 win. Cudham United Res could not hold the youngsters at Ex Blues Res (that doesnt include you Scot Debell) and went down 3-6. What was it I said about goalless draws well here is another one as Starks Park Rovers and Dartford could not be separated. Finally, The Flames kept on hunting the leaders as they barbequed Fairfield Res 7-0.
