North West Counties Football League Division 2
Saturday 24th February 2007
Padiham 3 Eccleshall 0
Mid-week signing Steve Intihar made his debut in the Eccleshall goal for their trip to Burnley as Dave Abel Eccleshalls regular keeper suffered more injury problems .
Eccleshall started brightly and put Padiham on the back foot with Jimmy Dunn going close with a dipping shot. Eccleshall forced two corners which had Padihams defence under pressure. Padiham however took the lead on 10 minutes, against the run of play. A quick break saw Padiham gain a dubious free kick 30 yards out. From the kick Matt Woods found Damien Morrison in the box his shot being saved by Steve Intihar but has the keeper seemed to have the ball under control but as everyone turned to move away the ball slipped from his grasp and over the line. Eccleshall worked hard with Matt Mills threatening down the right. Morrison again for Padiham tested Intihar, this time the keeper saving well. Michael Machin went close to scoring an equaliser, his shot just going narrowly wide. Eccleshall again looked dangerous on the attack but were again dealt a blow just before half-time. Good play between Andy Haworth and Paul Paynter set up Ed ONeil to score from the edge of the box. Half-time 2-0
In the second half Eccleshall again dominated play with Michael Machin hitting the bar after Jimmy Dunn had laid on a great ball. Machin again came close with a header, the ball being cleared off the line. Eccleshall chance of gaining anything from the game went on 53 minutes when a clumsy tackle by Matt Mills on Ed ONeil gave Padiham a penalty. Vinnie Braine made no mistake from the spot kick. Eccleshall again pushed forward with Jimmy Dunn firing wide from a good position. Padiham had a great chance to increase their lead but Steve Intihar was position well to save from Paul Barrett. The game finished with Eccleshalls lady luck again not with them as the 3-0 margin flattered promotion hopefuls Padiham and Eccleshall promotion hopes disappeared over the Pennines.
